Iranian government court sentences US hikers to 8 years in prison

Iran on Saturday sentenced two US hikers detained on espionage charges to eight years in prison, state television reported.
Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer were charged with illegal entry and spying. They were given five years for the spying charge and three more for the illegal entry.
They, and a third person Sarah Shourd, were arrested in July 2009 when they were hiking in the Iraqi Kurdish region near Iran.
Shourd was released last year for medical reasons and left Iran. All three had denied the charges against them.
